Senior Accountant

Responsible to a designated Associate or Senior Associate at The Corner Office and working in a team environment, this position is required to provide senior technical accounting assistance in the form of tasks and activities for a variety of clients who require accounting and financial management support. The clients consist of medium and small-sized firms or companies from a wide range of occupations and industries.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in using and applying current and new technologies in all aspects of work
  • Post-secondary education and/or diploma in accounting, financial management and/or payroll
  • Enrolled in and working towards CPA designation (required to move into Associate position; not required if career goal is to remain in Senior Accountant position)
  • Knowledge of and experience using current accounting and payroll software, and MS Office Suite
  • Broad experience in bookkeeping and journal entries for medium and small-sized businesses
  • Broad experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and tax remittances
  • Broad experience in preparing reconciliations for credit card, loans and/or bank accounts
  • Broad experience in preparing and interpreting financial statements and reports including balance sheets and point of sale (POS) reports
  • Broad experience in payroll preparation including determining and remitting source deductions
  • Organized and detail oriented to produce high quality work and to meet frequent deadlines and tight timelines
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively prioritize work assignments
  • Customer service focused and experience in managing client relationships based on trust and credibility
  • Ability to be efficient and effective while working independently
  • Demonstrated capacity to learn and assume responsibility for increasingly complex tasks and assignments

Responsibilities

  • Process and record accounts payable and accounts receivable at an increasingly broader and complex level
  • Provide routine record keeping of financial transactions using leading edge accounting and financial management systems at an increasingly broader and complex level
  • Prepare and remit tax remittances (GST, LCT, PST and/or other regulatory taxes)
  • Reconcile credit card, loan and/or bank accounts monthly at an increasingly broader and complex level
  • Prepare financial statements for month end, quarterly and/or year end purposes
  • Prepare and issue financial statements and/or other relevant reports for owner/managers (including Board or Executive reporting packages) on behalf of The Corner Office CPA team
  • Perform employee pay calculations and processing; issue T4 forms annually; remit source deductions
  • Troubleshoot issues and communicate them to the appropriate individual
  • Lead and/or review the work of Junior Accountants through delegation, oversight and mentoring
  • Train and teach the basics and their processes to other employees in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, record keeping of financial transactions, tax remittances, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, payroll calculations and remittances
  • Assist Associates and Senior Associates with client projects as assigned
  • Accept feedback and mentoring from other employees to further develop skills and abilities
  • Participate in team activities and support others as needed
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
